Road construction seems to be going on continuously. I guess to city dwellers we could call this a driveway. We have constructed about 1/2 mile of it so to me it is a road. The picture below shows the roads we have on the property today. There are three primary roads here. The south and north ones are just skid or dirt roads. They were constructed about 60 years ago when this place was logged. The one in the center is what we have been working on for the last 10 years.
This road leads to the house, shed and barn. We started out just grading the dirt road and that worked fine until the rains began. The rains started and we couldn't get through the gate because of all the mud. We checked with a contractor and we were in luck. He was grading the road across the way and would try and fit us in. Midge and I began clearing the brush and staking out where the road would be built. Unfortunately this meant wallowing in poison oak. I used a chain saw to cut it down and Midge piled it off to the side.
The road would be just long enough to allow us entrance to the property and a place to park our trailor till the summer dried things out. We had to drop several small trees in the process. The roadway was finally staked out and ready to be built. Steve, the contractor, was there in a couple days to begin the work. He started by cutting the path the road would take and moving out the stumps and debris. Having the right equiptment sure makes the job go smoothly. The bulldozer made things so easy.
Well if I haven't bored you to tears continue on to the next sequel
